Simple, Healthy, Delicious Hamburgers

(POR) This is a very simple recipe for healthy hamburgers that will also double the number of patties that you can make by adding a few easy ingredients. So instead of only making 8-9 hamburgers, you will be able to make 16 at no extra cost! It is also very easy to change the recipe to suit the tastes of different people (see notes below).   • 1 large onion
  • 5 cups (5 * 235 ml) of shredded beets or carrots (image below)
  • 1 heaping cup (250 ml) of finely ground oatmeal – or oatmeal baby cereal (image below)
  • 1 heaping spoonful of salt (image below)
  • 1/2 of a spoonful of black pepper (image below)
  • 2 pounds (907 g) of ground chicken, or pork, or beef
  • 2 eggs
  • (1) If the shredded beets/carrots are in large pieces (as shown below), chop the batch into smaller pieces on a cutting board (also shown).
  • (2) Chop the onion into small pieces and then add it to the ground chicken/pork/beef in a large mixing bowl as shown in the picture below.
  • (3) Add the beets/carrots, oatmeal, salt, pepper and eggs to the bowl (image below).
  • (4) Mix all ingredients by hand until they are thoroughly mixed together (image below).
  • (5) Cover two baking sheets/pans with tin foil, and then form the hamburger meat into patties and place them onto the baking sheets. (image below)
  • (6) Bake in the oven for 30-minutes at 450-degrees Fahrenheit (232-degrees Celsius).
Notes Notes Notes:

A. Suit to your own taste — After trying this recipe you may want to enhance the taste of the burgers in some way. So if you want them:

  • to be more salty, add more salt to the recipe.
  • to be more spicy, add more pepper or even cayenne pepper.
  • to be more flavorful, add a couple squirts of mustard or 3 cloves of garlic (minced).

B. A food processor can easily shred all of the beets or carrots in a few minutes.

C. Don’t use unground or coarsely ground oatmeal. The cereal must be finely ground to work properly.

D. Ignore the liquid that leaks onto the baking sheet during baking. It comes from the beets or carrots and won’t affect the final product.
